Walnut Workbox

Burr Walnut Workbox, with brass inset on lid and at keyhole. Dates the 19th century. The Walnut veneer is richly figured, and has some marks of time – see photo 4. The lid has a Rust shot-silk pad with fabric trim. The new tray has the same trim with an Esme Winter paper – Frequency in Orange. The interior of the box is lined with Ivory Lokta paper. There is a brass plate with the name “Toulmin and Gale, Makers. London.” They worked out of Cheapside in the City, and New Bond Street, as Dressing Case Manufacturers in the mid to late 19th century. A substantial workbox, with beautiful colours inside and out. No key. JB 0288
